USA September 2009

A short business trip to Long Island (NY) and 3 days holiday at Cape May (NJ) i.e. just about 4 days birding in total. i visited the Jamaica Bay Nature Reserve adjacent to JFK airport shortly after arrival and on my return to JFK. In Cape May i stayed at the Buckingham Motel towards the northern end of the Promenade (Beach Ave) and overlooking the beach. During my stay i visited "The Meadows", the Lighthouse area (Cape May Point State Reserve) and Higbee Woods. I also took a boat trip around the marshes, this was excellent for views of the 5 heron species, of ospreys and various waders (see www.ospreycruise.com). Cape May is a 3-hour car journey from JFK (180 miles), Philadelphia would be a closer airport (100miles) for transatlantic flights.
